Author Visits

Over the years I’ve visited countless schools and libraries from London to Glasgow and have also performed at major book festivals such as Edinburgh, Cheltenham, Bath, Kerry, Hamburg and Zug (Switzerland).

If you would like to discuss a visit, contact me for details or get in touch with Little Tiger Press. Every visit is different but I’ve tried to give a flavour of what I do on this page.

A great mix of listening and audience participation. The children are now hooked on Dirty Bertie books!

“You pitched things just perfectly and the school loved the experience”

“I had a great day!”

What’s in a school visit?

Most school or library visits are for a full day. In a typical session I talk about how I write, read extracts from my books (Dirty Bertie and others) and throw in a generous helping of audience participation including: ‘How to Draw Your own Cartoons’. I always leave space for children to ask their own questions at the end, such as ‘Are you rich?’ and ‘Is Dirty Bertie based on someone you know?’

What does it cost?

My fees for author visits are based on Society of Author guidelines, currently £400 a day plus travel expenses.  I live in Nottingham which is fairly central and am open to travelling further afield.

Will you sign books?

I’m always delighted to sign books during a visit and for many children the highlight of the day is the chance to come away with a book signed by an author they’ve met in person.

Since 2018 I have been Patron of Reading at Brosely Primary School, Shropshire where I visit regularly working alongside children in their reading and writing projects.
